Department Brief Information

There are basically two modes of entry into the programme, subject to the candidate satisfying the University minimum entrance requirement: University Matriculation Examination (UME) and Direct Entry. A Prospective degree candidate must satisfy both the general university requirements and the specific faculty and departmental requirements.

The requirement for each is as follows:
Candidates for the four- year (8 semesters) B.A. programme admitted through JAMB University Matriculation Examination, must possess West African School Certificate (W.A.S.C)., Senior School Certificate Examination (S.S.C.E)., General Certificate in Education (G.C.E.) O/Level, National Examination Council (NECO) or other equivalent certificates with credit level passes in at least five subjects taken at not more than two sittings. The five subjects must include English Language and Mathematics, History or Government and any two of these: English Literature, Geography, CRK, Economics, Igbo Language and French.
Candidates for the three–year (6 semesters) Direct Entry B.A. programme, must possess one of the following:
Diploma in History or in any other related discipline obtained from Evangel University Akaeze or any approved/recognised institution of higher learning, with an overall pass of at least merit level.
G.C.E. A/Level Certificate with a minimum of two subjects, including History or Government with at least a D grade pass in each subject.
The National Certificate in Education (N.C.E.) with merit level passes in at least two subjects, including History or Government.
